Betting websites linked to Mahadev scam have resurfaced in a new form after the government ban. Reports indicate that many of these betting platforms have returned to the public domain with slightly modified internet addresses and names. Some of these ‘betting exchanges’ have also shared updated names and URLs on social media platforms in the weeks following the ban.
“Our domain has changed. Fairplay.in changed to Fairplay24.in. The ID password will remain the same,” read an Instagram update. The FairPlay India handle – which calls itself the ‘world’s largest betting exchange’ – has over 131,000 followers on its social media platform.
According to a report in Economic Times, other betting websites have also adopted a similar approach to avoid the government ban. Parimatch has now become pari-match-bet.in while Lotus365 has changed to Lotus365.co.
The Enforcement Directorate had started a large-scale investigation into the Mahadev betting scam in 2023. It claimed that forensic analysis and the statement of Asim Das (an alleged cash courier who was arrested earlier) had led to “shocking allegations” that Mahadev betting app promoters had paid Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has received Rs 508 crore so far.
Earlier in January, the Enforcement Directorate had arrested two more people in connection with the money laundering probe in the Mahadev online betting and gaming app case. The agency had summoned several celebrities and Bollywood actors for questioning over their links with online betting platforms and payment methods. So far, the ED has filed two charge sheets in the case, including against the two main promoters of the alleged illegal betting and gaming app.
