Amidst the intense reaction over the execution of a prisoner with nitrogen oxide in the US state of Alabama, the spiritual advisor of 58-year-old Kenneth Eugene Smith shared horrific details. The Rev. Jeff Hood said prison staff were clearly shocked by what happened and that it looked like a scene from a horror movie. The spiritual advisor said that prison staff believed the execution should have been quick, easy and painless, but Smith “looked like a fish out of water, flailing again and again.”

“The whole thing was horrible. It is a scene that will never leave me. Some? [Smith’s] The conflicts seemed made for Hollywood. If you had taken me there and not told me I was hanged I would have thought I was on a movie set, some kind of macabre creation,” Hood told the New York Post.

A spiritual adviser revealed how Kenneth Eugene Smith suffered during his 22-minute execution and prison staff were clearly distraught by what was happening in the execution chamber.

Rev. Jeff Hood added, “When the execution began and he began to writhe, it was noticeable that staff members began to move around.” He looked like a fish out of water, flapping again and again. as if all that happened [Stewart-Riley] It was behind the gurney on his right side. She was so upset and nervous that she was tapping her feet again and again, like when you are upset about something you shake and cannot sit still,” he added.

Kenneth Eugene Smith spent more than three decades in prison after his arrest in 1988 for the murder of Elizabeth Sennett, a preacher’s wife. He became the first person to be hanged via the controversial method of nitrogen oxide, which was condemned by the United Nations and Europe. The White House said it was “deeply troubled” with the executive in Alabama.

second execution attempt

This execution became more controversial because it was the second attempt to end Smith’s life. Earlier in November 2022, the execution via lethal injection was canceled after doctors failed to find his vein to inject the lethal drug.

“I am still traumatized from the first hanging and now we are doing it again. They won’t even let me have post-traumatic stress disorder,” Smith told the Guardian earlier this week.
