AQI deteriorated in Delhi-NCR

In response to rising air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on January 26 said it has closely monitored the situation before imposing stricter measures under Phase III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Chose to inspect. , ANI reported. The decision was made based on forecasts indicating a possible recovery in the coming days.

Delhi’s 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) continues to rise, reaching 409 at 4 pm, CAQM said in a press release. The AQI scale ranges from 0 to 100 as ‘good’, 100 to 200 as ‘moderate’, 200 to 300 as ‘poor’, 300 to 400 as ‘very poor’ and 400 to 500 or above as ‘severe’. Classifies.

Considering the meteorological conditions and air quality projections by IMD/IITM, the CAQM Sub-Committee for GRAP held an emergency meeting to assess the current air quality scenario. The committee observed an increase in Delhi’s average AQI due to drop in temperature, foggy conditions and less dispersion of air pollutants due to local sources.

Despite the observed degradation, the Sub-Committee, after extensive review, accepted the positive air quality forecast by IMD/IITM. They decided to monitor the situation before considering stronger action under Phase III of GRAP. The existing preventive/restrictive measures under Phase I and Phase II of GRAP will continue with continuous monitoring for future decisions.

Phase 3 restrictions, which include a ban on non-essential construction work and a ban on plying of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi-NCR, were considered to be implemented. The GRAP restrictions, which were earlier lifted on January 18 due to improvement in air quality, may be reinstated based on ongoing assessments.
